Woodland's Winning Setup & More | Unique Clubs in Play
March 31, 2026
The PGA Tour swung by Memorial Park in Houston for the Texas Children's Houston Open, where Gary Woodland made a triumphant return to the winner's circle. Just a few weeks ago, Woodland revealed he has been battling PTSD in the aftermath of undergoing brain surgery in September 2023. His climb back to the top has been anything but easy. With that said, when it comes to performance on the golf course, Woodland's unique swing speed presents fun challenges for his club builders.
That and more in this installment of Unique Clubs in play.
WOODLAND'S UNIQUE SETUP
It's difficult to know where to start with Woodland. At 41 years old, he boasts the most club speed and ball speed. So, his equipment is unlike any other tour pro's. His driver is a Cobra OPTM Max-K driver with all kinds of custom weighting in the form of both internal hot melt and external lead tape. It's a 7.8-degree head lofted down to 6.8 with the FutureFit 33 hosel. Then, Woodland pairs that clubhead with a Fujikura Ventus Black Velocore+ 8X shaft, an extremely heavy and stout option for a driver.
Woodland also made an iron shaft change this week, going away from the Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100 model to the KBS C-Taper 130X model. Again, Woodland opting for a super stout shaft that allows him to load the shaft the way only his swing can.

SCOTT'S LAB PUTTER SWITCH
Adam Scott has been an endorser of L.A.B. putters for some time. So much so that he helped design the L.A.B. Oz.1 and Oz.1i a couple of years ago. With that said, Scott has mostly stuck with his L.A.B. Mezz.1 Max head throughout 2025 and into the 2026 season. He made the switch into a L.A.B. Oz.1i this week at the Houston Open.
ALEX FITZPATRICK WINS w/ HIGH-LOFTED WOODS
On the DP World Tour, Alex Fitzpatrick (Matt Fitzpatrick's brother) earned his first career win on the tour while gaming a pair of high-lofted fairway woods. 2nd Swing fitters continue to sing praises for high-lofted woods in fittings for all types of golfers. Clearly, they're effective for even the best golfers on earth. Fitzpatrick played a TaylorMade Qi4D 7-wood and a TaylorMade Qi35 9-wood en route to his victory in India.
KIM GOES BACK-TO-BACK w/ L.A.B. LINK 2.1
Hyo Joo Kim has now won back-to-back events on the LPGA Tour after outlasting Nelly Korda at the Ford Championship this past weekend in Arizona. She put a new L.A.B. Link 2.1 putter in the bag prior to last week's Founders Cup, and has now won both events she's competed in with the latest offering from L.A.B.
